Published in Things to do Miami

As the medical industry gears up for the popular FIME Exhibition & Congress which is set to take place from 2-4 August 2016 in Miami Beach Convention Centre in Miami, Florida, U.S., regular attendees and newcomers alike are excited by the prospect of a ‘new’ FIME under new management.

FIME, which attracts more than 20,000 attendees from across North, Central and South America, will be run by Informa’s Life Sciences Exhibitions Division which operates 26 exhibitions and more than 100 conferences yearly covering African, Middle Eastern, European and Asian markets. The largest of these is the Arab Health Exhibition & Congress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates; the second largest healthcare trade show in the world.

According to Simon Page, Managing Director, Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions: “The recent acquisition of FIME fits in firmly with our goal of expanding our international trade show operations in the region and with our existing portfolio of life sciences events across the globe. FIME will generate substantial value for our customers and partners by driving further product innovation and deeper engagement in these specific markets and it will send a positive message on the strength of commercial value opportunities within the medical device industry as a whole.”

While FIME’s primary focus will remain across four specific industry sectors - medical technology, medical products & supplies, medical services, and medical equipment – the new format and structure of the trade show means that attendees will be offered enhanced opportunities discover the latest medical technologies and cutting-edge devices from across the globe. With 38 participating countries, the international scope of the event is apparent with visitors able to source products and medical services from across all continents. The Dealers & Distributors Wall, an area dedicated to facilitating business relationships between visitors and exhibitors, will be a welcomed addition to the show as trade show visitors increasingly look for ways to fast-track their communications channels to deal more directly with exhibitors.

Under Informa’s stewardship, FIME will now offer a multi-speciality workshop programme in line with Informa’s motto of ‘Exhibition with Education’ providing an unrivalled knowledge-sharing and business networking platform for healthcare trade professionals in the region. The seminar agenda will focus on rules and regulations governing medical devices in the U.S. and Latin America, as well as U.S. FDA compliance procedures, import and export processes, and the challenges of dealers and distributors entering the U.S. medical devices market.

The workshop programme is designed to offer practical advice on how to position your business at the forefront of the healthcare industry through creating sustainable supply chains, powerhouse management strategies, empowering your workforce, better project management and leveraging digital marketing to enable your business to thrive.

Commenting on the importance of combining business opportunities with actionable skills through education, Page says “We identified that FIME attendees would benefit from the addition of a strategic workshop programme that would give them the right tools to be confident about their business strategy for expansion and to have a clear understanding on the business trends that will ultimately shape their business.”

Some of the key speakers addressing the audience of c-suit executives, government officials, hospital management, clinicians, technicians and business development professionals include Richard Vincins, Vice President of QA/RA, Emergo, USA; Shelly Garg, Attorney - FDA Practice Group, Sandler, Travis and Rosenberg, USA; Divya Khullar, Managing Partner, www.USAPatents.com, USA; Maggie Morales-Perez, President & CEO, Healthcare International Partners, USA; Juliana Negrini and Nathalia Medina, Vera Rosas Group, Brazil; and Lucas Rodrigues, Passarini Consulting, Mexico.

It’s only natural that Miami, a place with summer all year around, would be the ideal choice for the swimsuit industry’s biggest event of the year. All the major labels come out to play and young up-and-coming designers vie for a spot to get their suits into the eyes of the fashion elite. Nearly fifty designers show off their latest and greatest in the Mercedes-Benz tents alone. Across the city dozens of designers participate in satellite events that are organized by independent organizations.

Some of the biggest names in fashion show their swim collections during Swim Week. One year, Chanel put together a crew of synchronized swimmers and Chloe has started regularly showing on a runway atop the pool of the hyper-exclusive Soho Beach House.

Like any fashion event, it’s just as much about the parties and sponsorships, the red carpet and the street style as it is the main event. Miami Beach’s club, venues and hip eateries are packed with the jet-set crew of models, editors, photographers, writers and designers.

It’s late July and that means it’s hot, hot, hot in Miami. While it’s all about the clothes at any fashion show, this is probably the fashion event of the year with the least amount of clothes.

The scene is a familiar one for the international fashion set: the champagne flows, well-dressed show-goers sit and chat about the latest industry gossip, photographers snap pictures of the very best dressed.

Designers with cult-followings like Mara Hoffman, Roxy Pop Surf, Suboo, Wildfox Swim and more take to the tents and show off what the swim scene will look like for the next year. This year Mercedes Benz Fashion Swim Week is scheduled at 16-20 July 2016. Stay tuned at Miami City Social for more information.

LE Miami is the world's first event to reflect shift in Luxury. Traditional luxury belongs to the past. LE Miami is the catalyst for the next evolution of travel. We call it definition by style.

In the last 20 years, a new charge of creative, design-led and community-integrated ‘lifestyle’ hotels have transformed the travel industry. The emergence of the new ‘creative class’, representing 30% of the Western workforce and growing by 7% every year, has driven a demand for travel products that are unique, culturally connected and bespoke.

Consequently, the contemporary definition of luxury isn’t about money. It’s about creating an inimitable experience based on style, space, wellbeing, content, design, authenticity, storytelling, urbanity and innovation. The future belongs to the pioneers with the capacity and bravery to act on this cultural shift first.

LE Miami’s purpose is to identify and unite these travel rebels by connecting influential buyers representing this creative class clientele with the edgiest international travel brands.

Our Limited Edition collective meets in Miami annually for our fiercely business-driven yet passionately festival-like event. Across four days there are up to 45 pre-scheduled appointments with relevant individuals. However, we curate both our crowd and our scene to go beyond the average trade show, transforming our conference into a Ministry of Ideas; networking events into electric parties; and dull plasterboard booths into a revolutionary show space.

Idiosyncratic, eclectic and increasingly iconic, LE Miami’s namesake and host city is as Limited Edition as the event itself. Miami’s patchwork of clashing neighbourhoods meld into an emerging international hub for creativity – and make it the natural setting for the world’s only event to connect the high-end contemporary travel industry with the creative class.

LE Miami takes place in the Miami Beach Convention Centre – the host of other important events such as Art Basel, and a striking example of South Beach’s iconic Art Deco architecture. The LE Miami 2016 runs at June 6th - June 9th.

Not being your standard trade show, we’ve conceived an environment that reflects the rebellious, inventive spirit of the creative class. Taking our cues from the world of art, fashion, music and design, LE Miami fuses exhibitor stands with spaces to network and be inspired, including a DJ booth, bar, art installations and big screens.

Aqua Girl® traces its beginnings to the year 1999. That year, Alison Burgos and NYC’s legendary women’s producer, Shescape, gathered a committee of like-minded women from around South Florida to produce an exciting one-night event to benefit breast cancer. The event, Sweet Charity, was an extraordinary dance event bringing together over 800 women and raising over $15,000 for two local breast cancer organizations, Cancer Link and Gilda’s Club.

In 2000, Sweet Charity grew into an entire weekend of events and Aqua Girl® was born. The goal was to create a dynamic national fundraising weekend celebrating women and the issues that affect them. Women descended on Miami from all over the world and the first year of this spectacular weekend of events was a huge success.

We can’t believe how time flies. Now in its seventeenth fabulous year, Aqua Girl® continues to attract women from all corners of the country, the Americas and around the globe. The week continues to grow with an ever-expanding variety of events that enhance its appeal and have created what is now the hottest women’s festivals in the country.

As the largest charity women’s week in the country, your participation in Aqua Girl® contributes to a very good cause. In fact, 100% of the proceeds from Aqua Girl® benefit the Aqua Foundation for Women, a not-for-profit foundation whose primary mission is to serve as the funding catalyst for lesbian, bisexual, and transgender wellness and equality in South Florida through grants, scholarships, and initiatives.

The Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by FOOD & WINE is a national, star-studded, four-day destination event showcasing the talents of the world’s most renowned wine and spirits producers, chefs and culinary personalities. Hosted by Southern Wine & Spirits of Florida and Florida International University (FIU), the Festival benefits FIU’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management and the Southern Wine & Spirits Beverage Management Center. To date, the Festival has raised more than $22 million for the School.

Headed into its 15th year, the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by FOOD & WINE began as a one-day festival known as the Florida Extravaganza held at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus. For five years, from 1997-2001, the Florida Extravaganza showcased wines from national and international wineries paired with food from local restaurants and chefs working with students of FIU’s School of Hospitality & Tourism Management. In 2002, Lee Brian Schrager, then director of special events & media relations at Southern Wine & Spirits of America, took the reins of the one-day festival and brought his vision for the Festival to life by relocating it to South Beach. The renamed South Beach Wine & Food Festival® was held March 15 – 17, 2002 and attracted close to 7,000 guests to a series of dinners, seminars, a Grand Tasting Village and live Auction in its first year.

In 2006, the South Beach Wine & Food Festival celebrated its fifth anniversary and became one of the largest and most well-known festivals of its kind in the country. During the planning of the 2007 Festival Food Network entered into a partnership to become its title sponsor. The resulting Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival presented by FOOD & WINE combined the international appeal of top-quality libations from around the world, the national appeal of Food Network and its celebrity chefs and hosts, and the appeal of Latin and Caribbean-inspired regional cuisine.

In 2011, the Festival celebrated 10 years and released the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival Cookbook: Recipes and Behind-the-Scenes Stories from America’s Hottest Chefs (Clarkson Potter), written by Lee Brian Schrager with Julie Mautner, featuring a foreword by Anthony Bourdain.

The Festival and Southern Wine & Spirits celebrated the opening of the Wine Spectator Restaurant Management Laboratory and Mel Dick Wine Tower at FIU, the state-of-the-art educational facility built as a result of the funds raised from the Festival over the years, during the 2014 Festival. The Festival now attracts more than 60,000 guests annually to its 75+ events throughout the weekend. Looking forward, the 15th annual Festival will take place February 24 – 28, 2016 and will once again feature internationally renowned talent and leaders of the hospitality industry at uniquely crafted events showcasing world-class wine, spirits, food, and fun.

At the nexus of North America and Latin America, our Miami Beach show presents artworks from across the globe. Over 250 of the world's leading galleries participate, drawing over 70,000 visitors each year.

With miles of sandy beaches dotted with classic Art Deco architecture, world-class art museums, and a glittering nightlife, Miami Beach ranks among America's most iconic cities. During Art Basel, it embraces the artworld with special exhibitions at museums and galleries across the city, transforming the week into a dense and dynamic cultural event.

Leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa show work from the masters of Modern and contemporary art, as well as pieces by a new generation of emerging stars. Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and editioned works of the highest quality are on display in the main exhibition hall. Ambitious large‐scale artworks, film and performance become part of the landscape at nearby beaches, Collins Park and SoundScape Park.

Around 200 of the world's leading international Modern and contemporary art galleries display artworks by over 4,000 artists, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, film, video, and digital art. Visitors can find works ranging from editioned pieces by young artists to museum-caliber masterpieces.

Designed for galleries to present one, two or three artists showing works created within the last three years, the Nova sector features strong juxtapositions and never-before-seen pieces fresh from the artist's studio.

Leading publishers of editioned works, prints, and multiples exhibit the results of their collaboration with renowned artists, providing visitors the opportunity to see significant, and rare publications.

In a separately delineated space within their booths, Galleries present a curated exhibition by an artist of their choice. The diverse curatorial concepts for Kabinett include thematic group exhibitions, art-historical showcases and solo shows for rising stars.

As part of Art Basel's show in Miami Beach, over 20 large-scale sculptures and installations by leading and emerging international artists will be installed in Collins Park. Public is again curated by Nicholas Baume, Director and Chief Curator of Public Art Fund, and select works from the exhibition will remain on view through February 2016. This is the fifth year Art Basel and the Bass Museum of Art have collaborated to produce Public. Public will open on Wednesday, December 2 running until Sunday, December 6. Organized in association with David Gryn, Director of Daata Editions and London's Artprojx, the Film sector presents a dynamic program of films. Outdoor screenings take place at SoundScape Park, where works are shown on the 7,000-square-foot projection wall of the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center; and inside the Miami Beach Convention Center. In addition, New York-based film curator Marian Masone selects a feature-length film for a special screening at the Colony Theatre.
